For the past week, I’ve been chained to work (I can’t even find the time to watch Evan Almighty, dammit), and I honestly haven’t been sleeping properly. I woke up at sun set, and got to bed when the sun is about to rise. It wasn’t easy, but I just couldn’t bring myself to stop working when I finally got it going. I’ve been working like this for the past 12 years, and I must say, it’s a tough habit to break.

I was lucky enough last night to sleep early and wake up at six this morning like a normal person. Maybe I was just really tired after another 14 hours of work (not to mention my ass was beginning to hurt), but I certainly didn’t regret turning in early. After a month of living like a bat, I finally had the opportunity to wake up when the sun is up.

Sheero and I have been taking walks in the evening for the past month, and we certainly missed doing that in the morning. You see, it’s not really safe to walk around our subdivision late at night, so we had no choice but to go out during rush hour. Our house is situated on a main road, so there really are a lot of cars passing by during that hour. Luckily, Sheero was used to the loud sound of passing cars. But really, walking at that hour isn’t very relaxing as walks are supposed to do.

I’d forgotten how relaxing and inspiring taking walks in the morning was. There aren’t much cars, and we could actually appreciate the suburban scenery. It’s been a while since we were greeted by friendly neighbors good morning (instead of the leering drunks who sometimes hung out at a nearby sari-sari store), and met the elderly couple who liked telling Sheero what an adorable white bundle of fur she is.

I guess you never really appreciate something unless it’s taken away from you. A simple walk with a dog in the morning isn’t something to go shouting about, but if you haven’t done it in a long time, you begin to see the beauty that you’ve taken for granted.

Don’t mind me. I know I sound uberly sentimental over something so mundane (no, it’s not enough to get me all weepy), but I guess I’m just getting a bit tired of thinking too much. With all the things going on around the blogosphere, I’ve honestly wanted to take a bit of a break from blogging. They just make me think too much, you know? And that really takes the fun out of it. Between you and me, I really missed blogging about the simple things in life. Nothing complicated—just simple, everyday things that we don’t normally take the time to spare a thought for but have long inspired me both in design and writing for the past twelve years.

Just a short announcement…

Got word about this from Reyna Elena herself: they’re holding an OFW Slogan and logo design contest over at their site. The creator of the winning slogan will take home P5,000, and another Php5,000 for the one who designs the winning logo. Basically, this contest is aimed to capture the spirit and exemplify what an Overseas Filipino Worker is all about. If you got a knack for designing logos or copywriting, head over their site for more details on how to join.
