Finally, a new blog theme!

I was planning to launch this new theme last February 14, but life (and work) happened. In case you’re wondering, I haven’t turned sappy and decided February 14 was such a romantic day it deserved a blog theme launch. Valentine’s Day happened to be the day I bought the Kutitots.Com domain, and saved myself from living with a totally disgusting domain such as pataynadaga.com (can you believe I actually considered that for a blog name? Gah, I surprise myself sometimes).

So what brought about the new theme? Nothing much. The old one was just really — well, old. I grew tired of it. Unfortunately, the web designer side of me trumped the blogger side — I just couldn’t bring myself to blog when I thought my layout was already fugly.

Does that mean I’ll be blogging more? Well, maybe. It took me around two months of almost-regular blogging on the recently-revamped Pinoy Dog-Lover before I got distracted with other things again (ie. work). I guess we’ll just have to wait and see πŸ™‚

Got a few kinks to polish in this new theme. I’ve also kept the design as simple as possible, but hopefully it’ll take a while before I get tired of it again.

Kutitots now on WordPress 2.7!!!

Pardon the geeky raving, but I am so loving WordPress 2.7! I’ve been looking forward to this release ever since Matt unveiled it at WordCamp Philippines last September.

The User Interface (UI) of the Admin Panel is a huge improvement, and I’m able to customize the Post Editor now as I see fit. Frankly, I never liked the way the Post Editor features of the previous releases were jumbled up together. It got particularly annoying when I created custom fields and “special instructions” for my clients whenever I customized their WordPress to be able to use it as a light-weight Content Management System (CMS). The horizontal tabbed navigation was a pain in the ass as wellÒ€”the UI “improvement” the previous releases supposedly aimed for didn’t really improve things, but made finding things worse when they combined stuff. The ways things were categorized into links before gave us a headache when training clientsÒ€”you could easily make a mistake creating a new “Post” instead of a “Page.”

With the 2.7 release, things are organized better. And honestly, I’ve always preferred vertical navigation for apps that have a lot of links. It’ll probably take me a few days to get used to this new interface. After all, I’ve been able to adapt to the previous releases’ jumbled up UIÒ€”it’s been like a necessary evil I had to live with. But I don’t think that would be much of a problem, since the interface looks awesome anyway πŸ™‚

Performance-wise, I haven’t really tested it much so I can’t say at the moment if there are any improvements on that aspect or not.

Well, let’s see. For now, I’ll enjoy the new UI πŸ™‚

You can download the latest version of WordPress from the Download section of their website. Enjoy!

As promised, you can download my presentation at WordCamp Philippines 2008 πŸ™‚ I’ve uploaded them at MediaFire; not sure how long the files will be available on the site though, this is the first time I’ve used it. Many thanks to Nina for the head’s up on this site.

DOWNLOAD THE FILES HERE:
wordcamp_gailv.ppt (File size: 27.23MB) or wordcamp_gailv.pptx (File size: 10.41MB)

The content of the two files are exactly the same, except that the effects are not all available in the PPT version, and the Smart Objects are rendered as graphics so the overall file size is twice as big as the PPTX one. If your PowerPoint version is earlier than MS PowerPoint 2007, download the PPT version because I’m not sure if you’d be able to run the PPTX version.

I‘m still finishing up my Davao visit post (lots of pictures!), so for now let’s talk WordCamp Philippines! πŸ™‚ But unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take photos at the event πŸ™ I dunno, I guess I was just lazy, knowing full well that Melo will be taking lots of photos anyway πŸ˜€ I do have three photos in my camera though, pics of me with Mr. WordPress!

I wasn’t able to attend the breakaway sessions in the morning as well πŸ™ I was just too sleepy (I wasn’t able to sleep at all the night before due to some pending work needed to be done), and conked out for a few minutes in the volunteers’ lounge instead πŸ˜› My husband Marc had rest, so he just attended the sessions for both of us (he’ll just teach me the new things he learned). Next WordCamp, I swear I will get some sleep before the event! (Aileen and I were witnesses when Matt made Blogie promise WordCamp Philippines 2009! LOL). Read more

I’m going to WordCamp Philippines!

Finally, we have a WordCamp here.

I’m actually very excited to go to WordCamp Philippines 2008 for a number of reasons. One, because I love WordPress, I’m such a nerd, and I would feel incredibly unfulfilled if I don’t go. Two, our web design business is expanding and we’re in the look-out for budding CSS encoders and PHP programmers. And three, because I’m a fan-girl of Matt Mullenweg and would love to get his autograph and have my picture taken with him!

If reason number three isn’t good enough a reason, I don’t know what is πŸ˜€ Read more

I want to blog this on The Filipino Web Designer but I don’t have any intelligible words to say. Omigod. Omigod. OMIGOD!!!!

I think I’ve said OMIGOD so often today that my dad is already threatening to enter me in a convent.

So what’s freaking me out? I’ll tell you…

It’s really my habit to load Thunderbird as soon as I turn on my pc. And the first email that I saw was a notification of Dana’s comment on Filipino Web Designer. I was like… “what the f…?!” I checked ArenaWP and that’s when I started with my OMIGODs!

I was so freaking (and I’m still freaking) that Marc’s sister thought I’m losing my mind.

I’m sorry, but I really can’t help it. Seeing my name on that list was the last thing I’ve thought possible. I mean, come on… Although there are quite some people in the Philippine blogosphere who know me (mostly because of the first IBlog Summit where I gave a talk on blog design), I’m a nobody in the international WordPress community. I’ve honestly given up any hope of winning whatever in that contest after Terry released the official list of participants. So I just got myself distracted with work (which isn’t hard to do, since my weekend was practically all on work, work, work). You can just imagine the surprise I felt when I saw Dana’s comment. After spending practically the entire week in self-pity for being a work-slave, seeing my name on that list was simply unbelievable. Even my family thought my abrupt mood change was alarming hehehe πŸ˜€

My mind is still a bit incoherent right now. I’m blabbing. I’ll probably just blog about this properly once my mind’s stable again πŸ˜†

Maybe it’s because I’m nearing my period… But I am so not feeling this layout anymore. I know it’s not done yet, but somehow I’ve just gotten tired of it. Still thinking of whether or not to release this theme for free… I already have quite a lot of themes (ok, just three) on my plate for release right now. Manuel has kindly provided photos for my use (I’ll credit him on the them of course), and I’ve been having quite a lot of fun playing around with them on my free time.

I don’t really understand why I’m not liking this design anymore… Maybe it’s also because the designs I made for my wedding blog and Marc’s blog are better. Hehe. Well, my opinion at least. I think they’re nicer.

I hope your mothers all had a great Mothers’ Day celebration. Mine did. We took her shopping. Hehe.

Let’s populate Google Earth!

First off… Many thanks to Podz for adding Kutitots to the roster of WordPress blogs on Google Earth. Look at the screenshots below:

Kutitots on Google Earth 1

Kutitots on Google Earth 3

Right now, there are only two blogs in the Philippines on the map (one of which is Kutitots), so if you have a WordPress blog, have yourself added so there would be more Pinoys on the map. Go to Podz’s page about it for instructions.

Make sure your blog is run using WordPress (no other blog platforms please) before you request for him to add you. Why? Well, for one thing, it’s going to defeat his purpose of mapping out WordPress users.

Anyway, you’ll need to have Google Earth installed on your PC to see the file. Refer to the instructions on Podz’s page.

Pretty cool, huh? This is one those things that make you want to go, “why didn’t I think of that?” Well, at least for people who knows how to program… And I’m certainly not one of those people who can say that. I was, and will always be, a designer. Hehe.
