“Just because” surprises

Daily Dose Tech Things

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for female independence, but I’ll be lying if I say I don’t like romantic surprises. My husband Marc is as busy as I am. We run a home-based business, but he’s out meeting clients and client prospects almost on a daily basis. My job involves staying in front of the computer all day, I don’t really get to go out much except for my daily one-hour runs and bike rides. Sometimes I feel the need to set an appointment so we could find time together during work week, Saturdays and Sundays being the only “blocked off” days for our couple time 🙁

I’m not complaining (well, not much, anyway), as this indicates that our home business is doing better. But still… I can’t help but long for the hours when we got to spend a lot of time during the day at home together, and the lunch or dinner dates of “just because” occasions. I am a woman, you know. I may be very practical (sometimes even to the extent of being called “totally un-romantic” by my friends), but sometimes it’s hard not to be lonely here at home even with our hyperactive Shih Tzus running about. Work stress, topped with occasional bouts of loneliness, hasn’t really been good to my temper during the past few weeks.

Our friends can attest to this: my husband is as practical as I am… and probably even more “un-romantic.” :p Just think of it this way… I got Facebook flowers instead of real ones for Valentines’ Day, because, as he said, “it’s the thought that counts!” But he does leave me surprises (like tangible surprises) every now and then — that’s my Marc for you, he can be quite unpredictable. I was feeling cranky last Monday, so many things to do and Marc had to ask me to be the one to feed the dogs their dinner. Imagine my excitement when I saw that little black box lying innocently on top of the dogs’ food container.

Jewelry? No, it’s not what you think. Read more

Nokia N96: The most expensive phone I ever owned (so far)

I turn 27 today. Shopping is usually an ideal gift for women my age, but not me. I don’t get into “latest” trends (which my husband, Marc, equates to “seasonal spending”) or spend much on stuff that would be useless after a few months. I’m practical that way, but like any other person I do have a spending weakness: gadgets! 😀

For my last birthday, my husband surprised me with an early birthday present, a Wacom Intuous 3. He knows how these things make me swoon and regress to childhood. This year he went a step further. Marc got me the most expensive phone I ever owned for my birthday: a brand-new Nokia N96.

I only had my eyes set on a Nokia N82, which I got to play with a bit from the demo Nokia had during the 2008 Philippine Blog Awards Night. You can just imagine how I almost peed on my pants when Marc said we should just get the N96 for me since I’ve been such a hard-working wife anyway 😀 Read more

An early birthday present

Five days from now, I’ll be turning 26. I haven’t really thought about how to celebrate it—I just have a lot of work to do—so maybe I’ll just have a quiet dinner with family and some old friends.

I honestly find it a huge relief to be able to blog again. I’ve passed up quite a lot of blogger and press events for the past month (damn, I so wanted to go to the Interior Design exhibit that Blooey invited me to, going there would have given me cool ideas when we finally have the funds for a house renovation), and I still haven’t gotten my usual monthly movie fix. I just don’t have the time. It’s a miracle I even found time to breathe 😛

A week ago, Marc was starting to pity my sorry state. Or maybe he felt guilty, since I still found time to cook for him regardless of my uberly busy schedule (in fairness, he’s the one doing the laundry). He finally admitted to me what he said to Abe when they were scouting for a laptop more than a month ago—he wanted to get me a Wacom Intuous 3 for my birthday.

Since I’ve been such a hard-working good girl, my husband bought me an early birthday present: Read more

When it rains, it pours

I first heard this saying (if it actually is a saying) in the first episode of Desperate Housewives season 2. I never really saw any significance with it (except that it sounded cool), until yesterday.

I actually have a different post prepared for this blog already, but because of the “pouring,” I had to content myself with a new and different one instead. Read along, and you’ll understand why.

Yesterday, I started my day like I always did: turn on the PC on my way to the bathroom. But that “morning” (which was two in the afternoon for normal people) was different—the PC won’t turn on. I tried a few more times with no success and reseated whatever connections could be reseated, didn’t work, so I woke up my tech support-turned-blogger-and-house-husband before I even brushed my teeth—yeah, I still had dragon breath. He was pissy, not because I woke him up with my breath stinking like hell, but because I woke him from his beauty sleep. Usually, a marching band can’t wake up Marc, but after hearing me say that the PC won’t turn on, he was out of bed immediately—he knew from experience that I wouldn’t bother him with PC troubles unless it was really serious.

And so it was. Read more

My new Logitech G3 Laser Mouse and the Taste Asia food binge

Seven days of no blogging? Gee, I didn’t know it’s been that long. I’ve been meaning to blog (seriously, I was) about my new toy: a Logitech G3 Laser Mouse.

Logitech G3 Laser Mouse

The Most Influential Blogging Overlord had been advising me to get an ergonomic mouse ever since I went to a blogger badminton session with a bandage on my right hand (I swear, that guy’s sales talk can sell a house if he wanted it to). I suppose he thought my cheapo, worn-out, uber-harassed optical mouse had to go. I have quite a high tolerance for pain, so I never really thought of getting a new mouse until the cursor started having a mind of its own. Read more

The Nokia 5300 and N70 that blogging bought

Well, kinda. Sorta. Marc purchased the mobile phones using his credit card, but we’ll be paying for them monthly using my blogging earnings. I would have preferred full payment upfront, but Marc (probably in his excitement) inputted the wrong ATM PIN code thrice! Our ATM card got captured, so we weren’t able to withdraw Php10,000 from that account. These babies cost more than that, but we were planning on withdrawing from our different bank accounts because of the Php10,000 withdrawal limit per transaction.

Our new gadgets!

So anyway, Marc insisted on getting the “better” phone since he’s the one who goes to the office and attends client meetings (I’m just the lowly, work-at-home designer huhuhu). I got the Nokia 5300.

My new phone: Nokia 5300

I’m not really a music person, but it has a sliding function. I don’t know why, but I just find this phone cute. It’s so… small! I even lucked out and was able to avail Nokia’s special offer. It came free with those sleek Bluetooth earphones (I think this promo is only until February 10). Read more
